He opened up, “I never wanted to become a celebrity because I grew up watching my hyung and I just never thought about pursuing it. After watching hyung’s acting in ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal‘, however, I completely changed my mind. I thought to myself, ‘I want to try acting.’”
To Park Yoohwan, his brother is an acting senior and an ally that gives endless support. “Hyung supported me 100%. He told me to just go for it. One of the biggest stresses of my life was that I didn’t have anything I wanted to do. I was always worrying about what I was going to do in the future or what I would like to do. When I first told hyung my dream, he immediately said that he would support me.”
Although Yoochun supports him, he doesn’t give him any particular advice. Yoochun is of the belief that adjusting in society is 100% the responsibility of the individual. “He doesn’t give me acting advice and just tells me to learn from experience. He did tell me to always properly greet and bow and to take care of my seniors first since I’m the maknae. He told me to become a human being with character before becoming an actor.”
Park Yoohwan has been working consistently, starring in dramas like ‘Shiny Shiny Shining’, ‘Kyebaek’, and ‘A Thousand Days‘ Promise’. He landed a leading role in just a year into his debut and is even transforming into an idol through Channel A‘s ‘K-Pop Best Survival‘.
Despite his records, he’s still surprised at being named one of the rising stars of 2012. “It’s amazing. I never thought that I’d be loved for doing something that I had fun and enjoyed doing. Before I started acting, I was uncomfortable with the idea of living as someone popular. I had a hard time watching my hyung endure so many hardships because of his fame.”
When asked whether he felt annoyed by being nicknamed as Yoochun’s brother wherever he went, he replied, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being hyung’s dongseng. Even if I didn’t want that nickname, there’s no denying that we’re brothers. I want to work hard so that I can make him proud.”
When asked how he would feel if Yoochun was nicknamed ‘Park Yoohwan’s hyung’, he replied, “I think it’d be really funny if that happened!”
On his future goals, he revealed that his long term goal is to act for a long, long time, “I want to act for as long as I age. I see seniors that continue to concentrate on acting no matter how old I get, and that’s the kind of future I want. When I began ‘Shiny Shiny Shining’, I didn’t know anything and often wondered to myself why I was there because I was so nervous. Thankfully, my seniors talked to me first and helped me relax. I want to become that kind of senior to my future junior.”
