She explained, “I hated how we were called ‘Ayumi and the Idols’. I am Hwang Jung Eum, and obviously I had my own way of life. There were just too many restrictions placed upon me.”
Sugar debuted in 2002, and Hwang Jung Eum left the group after three years of promotions with them. At the time, Ayumi had been the most popular member because she had grown up in Japan and made cute Korean language mistakes which made her a variety favorite. Hwang Jung Eum also revealed that during their training process, they were cut off from contacting their parents and weren’t allowed to eat what they wanted, which all added up to her final decision to quit.
