On March 26, Kim Hyun Joong got his license suspended for driving under the influence. He was discovered asleep at the wheel while on the road.
On April 25, Kim Hyun Joong was fined 2 million won (approximately $1774) for his wrongdoings. Following the fine, Kim Hyun Joong’s agency came out and stated, “We haven’t received anything from the court yet and believe that the letter is still in the process of being delivered. However, we plan to accept whatever the court has ordered and pay our dues once we receive it.”
Kim Hyun Joong is holding his fan meeting as originally scheduled.
The fan meeting is Kim Hyung Joong's comeback event. He will be meeting his fans for the first time since he got discharged from the military in February. However, reports claimed that the fan meeting is most likely to be canceled due to Kim Hyun Joong's recent drunk driving incident. Many netizens are also encouraging him to take a hiatus and reflect on his wrongdoings.
Despite the criticism and concerns, Key East Entertainment announced that the fan meeting will take place as originally scheduled. The label explained that there will be no cancellation because "it's a promise with his fans."
A total of 4,000 seats are available for the fan meeting. Currently, the tickets for the event are almost all sold out and it's expected to take place as scheduled on April 29 at Olympic Hall in Olympic Park.
Kim Hyun Joong has had his license suspended after driving under the influence.
According to a report by Channel A, another driver had called police at around 2 a.m. KST on March 26 after noticing that the car in front of him wasn’t moving for a while. When police came, they found Kim Hyun Joong sleeping at the wheel. His blood alcohol level at the time was 0.075 percent, which is an automatic license suspension.
His entertainment company KeyEast Entertainment said on March 30, “At dawn on March 26, Kim Hyun Joong was drinking with his friends near his house when he was asked to move his car by a parking attendant. He drove to comply with this.”
They said, “He hadn’t slept for a few days to practice for his concert, and while he didn’t even drive 1 kilometer, he was asked to submit to a blood alcohol test and had his driver’s license suspended.” They added, “Regardless of the reason, it was wrong for Kim Hyun Joong to get behind the wheel and he understands that what he did is wrong and he is reflecting. We will be careful so that this doesn’t happen again in the future.”
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong was discharged from the military in February and has been preparing for a comeback.
On February 11, Kim Hyun Joong was discharged from the army after serving for 21 months.
Upon being discharged, the actor relayed his thoughts on being discharged and said, “I feel like I’m starting the second half of my life.”
He continued, “I still have a lot of worries and fear. However, I felt many things, learned how to overcome, and thought a lot while I was in the army. I hope people will trust me more and watch over me.”
As for his future plans, he said, “The very first thing I need to do is meet my parents. I met them while I was on leave, but I want to greet them formally after being discharged. I can’t give any details about plans for activities, but I think I will greet fans soon.”
Kim Hyun Joong was also asked about his thoughts on BIGBANG’s T.O.P and JYJ’s Junsu starting their military service. He commented, “I hope [they] have strength and fulfill their military duty well.”
Previously, Kim Hyun Joong started his mandatory military service in May 2015 as an active-duty soldier.
