Nakamura Masatoshi attended the 'Love Without Borders' 3-hour charity show in Hong Kong to raise money for the victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. During the earthquake, Nakamura was filming a scene on the train. Even though he was miles away in Tokyo, he said he never experienced such a large earthquake before and thought he was going to die.

Nakamura's hometown is in Onagawa, located in the Miyagi Prefecture where the tsunami struck. The population was originally at 10,000, but has gone down to approximately 5,000 people. Many of his friends and family have received terrible news brought on by the earthquake. Nakamura himself found out today that his younger cousin passed away after being trapped in his car during the tsunami.

However, Nakamura remains optimistic: "The recovery will take time, but I believe Japan has the power to overcome this. Japan will once again rebuild itself." Nakamura performed a duet at the charity event alongside Hong Kong singer Aaron Kwok, singing the song 'Oretachi no Tabi'. The song was made popular in Hong Kong by late singer Roman Tam with a Cantonese version titled '前程錦繡'.
